I've noticed lately that Blu-Ray players have been getting much cheaper and it seems to me that its probably time I bought one and made the move to buying Blu-Rays rather than DVD's.

I've been looking around and I see that theres plenty of them around the £100 mark nowadays but I was just wondering if anyone here's bought one recently or can recommend a good one?

I'm in a similar position as I've just upgraded my main TV but don't have a DVD or Blu-ray player to enjoy it with. I haven't found one yet but something I'm keen for it to do is upscale DVDs. I can't imagine replacing my DVDs with the matching Blu-rays so it's important to get the best out of my existing discs.

PS3 has Blu-ray built into it. Anyone used one for playing films? Any good?

Mine is a Panasonic 110 which cost me £89 less a bit back from Quidco. I do have a 3D TV but only bought it because I liked the normal 2D picture on it best but for the difference a 3D bluray player seemed sensible.

AV stuff now seems to all feature networking abilities. Playing streams from the internet etc. Quite how skype works on a bluray player I have no idea but being able to play stuff not on a disc is useful as is the USB port for plugging in something with video files on it.

Once you start upgrading things can cascade a bit. There are new 'high definition' audio tracks on many blurays....The AV amp I had didn't take HDMI so that had to be replaced...

I have a Sony BDP-S370 that I bought off Amazon last year for about 80 quid... Picture is great, the online material is pretty extensive, it can stream from a DLNA server and the upscaling is pretty good too...

Playback is similar to a PS3, from what I've read, but the load time is a LOT quicker...
