Everytime I either upload photos or sometimes just browsing the web my pc blue screens, at least twice every hour, so far this morning its done it 6 times. I reformatted the pc last week and its still doing it. Any one got any ideas as to why?

what are you using to upload? i had a similar problem on my old pc. the flickr uploader was causing blue-screen every time i tried to upload. I reinstalled it and found that fixed the problem.

Not sure Julian, if you reformatted and installed windows again, it's possibly indicating a hardware problem... Do you know what sort of temperatures your kit is running at ? Probably worth checking into that, there are free temperature monitors around, I used to use something like http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311 (I can't find the original website). When my HDD temps got up to high, all sorts of odd things started happening, like blue screens etc. Check for dust in the air inlets in the casing as this is the primary cooling method (unless you've modded it a lot).

I am using picasa to upload and everytime I upload to photobucket it freezes and blue screens.

The pc isnt modified at all its an old packard bell. All vents are clear I make sure that its all dust free regularly and nothing blocking them.

If you have formatted it and installed the correct drivers then I'd say it could well be a hardware problem - typically the memory...

I used this app a few years back and I did have a bad stick of RAM, eBay purchase LOL. Download it and burn it to a CD and boot the computer from it, it can take a while though.

Alternatively look at the Event Manager in Control Panel > Administrative Tools and see if you can find out what process is causing it to freeze.

Although its pretty rare to see a BSOD from software errors, unless its poorly writen in my experience.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Thanks will get some blank cds and try that

Had the same problem. Then the whole computer went k.put. Faulty Hard drive in the end. Before the computer died, it was suggested that it may be the ram, so neil g may well be right.

If you haven't got one Julian... get a backup done quickly

BSODs usually indicate that a piece of hardware is giving up, from Windows 2000 onwards user mode software really, really should not be able to bring the whole operating system down. For it to be happening so regularly is an even stronger indicator of hardware problems. The best case scenario is the CPU fan failing causing it to overheat as this is the cheapest and easiest fix to diagnose.

If you know what you are doing, take the computer apart, vacuum out the dust from any fans, re-seat the memory and hard disk connectors and see how it goes. If you don't know what you are doing, do not do any of these things.

You could just take the side off and check that the CPU fan is spinning at a good speed, then leave the side off so you can check it periodically, particularly immediately after failures.

Sorry Julian couldn't resist

Ooooooooooooh cheeky, still got kids school laptop WHEN I CAN GET ON IT

You might want to reseat the memory modules, and do the same with the hard Drive leads, just in case. Might be worth swapping the memory modules around whilst you have them out.

Is this the old one that Darren fixed for you? It sounds like its on its way out if this is post reinstallation. What code is the BSOD?

You can disable the reset after the BSOD so you are able to jot down the 0x000 number and there is also some text at the top which is also worth a jot down. Google it and then you are more likely to pinpoint the issue.

1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"

Doesn't harm the computer, i have it on mine. I regularly get it when i run Photoshop on my netbook! lol

my bet would be a RAM stick going bad, but it could well be the hard drive, even out of date drivers can cause it

I know you later posted a reply that was of some use, but still, what do you think posting a URL of a computer which costs at minimum about £500 will achieve? You think the person is going to dump their old computer for one error and then shell out £500 for a new computer?

Joke or not, it's not very helpful

We did some analysis on blue screens from the cases we get through our helpdesk at work. The majority were traced back to shoddy video drivers. You may want to chek this too.

Darren fixed my laptop which passed away agan lol. The error code is on the main pc and is 117 had it twice this morning and all i was doing was watching BBC News online not uploading and photos
