Hi folks, please excuse my lack of photographic knowledge as i am a total newbie...lol
I have been looking through some of the shots, The 'Honister Pass - Mini Waterfall' shot by 'Jimmy Lemon' in the Lanscapes and Scenery section for example...
A great shot as im sure you will all agree, what intigues me *** is how the blurry almost cartoon effect of the rippling water in the bottom of the shot is gained....
I have seen this type of effect on other photo's and was wondering is it something added later in Photoshop perhaps or is there any type of specialist kit used on the camera???..

Thanks...

Paul...

Hi Paul! Welcome to the forums! Nice to see another Stockport based person here :)

If I'm thinking along the right lines, I think what you mean is the water blurring as it comes over the fall. To achieve this effect, you need to do a long exposure. The longer it is, the more blurred and smooth the water will appear. Anything from half a second to 5 seconds is usually enough! :)

You need a long shutter time, depending on the speed of the water. Things like fountains blur very easily - maybe 1/8sec; waterfalls a bit longer, say 1/2sec; to get milking seas, you need one or two few waves to pass so 20secs at least. Depends on the effect you want.

1/8sec usually isn't too difficult just by using low ISO and high f/numbers to increase the shutter speed. Longer speeds will need a neutral density filter to reduce the light level.

Edit: Oops, crossed post :)

a bump for the nor'est mob...is there any traffic in stockport still
cheers
