Boarding/ski photographers here? (Tignes X Games?)

Yes
I'm working on a few boarding photos to use as part of my portfolio. I've had a few motorsport photos published in magazines so I'd like to try and get involved in snowboarding photography. Once I'm in Tignes doing the season, I should be able to get some practice.

Eventually I'd like to get some sort of press pass for the X Games, and maybe push for other work, either overseas or in the UK, thereafter . Anyone here have any links or tips? I'm checking out the work of other guys like Andy Parant for inspiration and ideas.

Previous work: (My website is being updated, so not all my work is on there, just yet!)

I dont see much in the images you posted that relate to Snowsports pictures

i could say to MSV i have shot PL football please can i have a season pass for BSB :)

I would say, spend time looking at the boarding magazines and see what gets published then use that for inspiration, build up some sample images and approach the picture desks at the magazines to see if they are looking for people to cover events......most importantly DONT accept a credit as "payment" or "if you do this as a freebie we'll look at using you in the future"

As for tips google Primoz Zizek and Mitch Gunn to get you started ;)

As I said at first, I have a few boarding shots that I haven't processed yet. The above were just to show other types of photography I do. ;)

Thanks for the tips, though. :) I'll have a look at those guys, too. There are some great photographers out there!

First off, I'm only a little jealous that you're spending a season in Tignes! :(

Before you get out there though, why not try speaking to some of the indoor slopes, I know the ones in Manchester and Castleford regularly have freestyle nights which can be great to shoot, especially if you play about with light a bit. So that could be good for practice. Then you'll just have to work on some back country/off piste stuff once you get out there.

Sounds interesting though, keep us posted if you do get yourself a pass!

I don't know if you've found it yet but http://www.natives.co.uk/ is one of the best resources for potential saisionaires.

The search function is fairly good (although the engine is Google), and the forum could well answer any resort specific questions that you have: http://www.natives.co.uk/phpBB2/index.php

One of the sites that it turned up was Adam Johnston's Alpine division:
http://www.photoski.eu/
which is worth a gander as he has some frankly bloody brilliant pictures which have been featured in boarding Mags.

Apart from the action side of things, the most important thing will be to get your exposure methods sussed so that you don't end up with grey snow the whole time.

Bryan Peterson has some decent tips, if you can get his book or one of his DVDs.
