I'm loving getting back into photography since I gave up on film some years ago and I've been really enjoying using my 450d.

I'm thinking of my next upgrade, I shoot motorsport and landscapes mostly (two opposites I suppose!) and wondered if a move to a 1D Mk2 would be beneficial for faster autofocus, water resistance etc (I go to the Rally GB in Wales each winter and the weather is always foul) or would I be better going for something newer such as a 50d?

I've got an 18-55 (non IS), and 55-250, would probably look at something like a 70-200 2.8 or 70-200 f4 later in the year ready for the rally.

Any thoughts?

neither of your lenses will work on a 1d, the EF range will do and that includes the 2 you have said.

I personally would take a punt on a good low actuations 1d2 every time, it'll be my next body once the 40d dies

I went from a 450 to a 1Ds classic (2003) and although it's much older there are still many many advantages. The main one being the AF system; 1 series AF rocks!

I would say go for a 1D Mark II, you can get some for great prices. The 1 series body is very comfortable, and tough. I have not held a 50D, but I have held a 7D, and I can say for something that cost so much I was not at all impressed with the build.
