Apologies in advance my friends if I appear to be re-peating myself in other posts but having read a few other threads it got me thinking...

I've got my D70s up for sale and am STILL undecided in what to upgrade to ( mainly because I can't seem to find one at the right price ;) )

I'm not in any rush as i'm very much an amateur at the moment but hope that will change in time.

I thought I'd made my mind up and decided on a Fuji S5 Pro but haven't had much luck on the auction front ( know what i mean ? :shake:) and low mileage examples don't appear too often on here.

Then swayed toward a used D300 but am now having thoughts about a used Canon 5D !!! ( my tutor on an evening course uses one and works at Venture)

I only have a couple of lenses so aren't tied to Nikon by any means and having looked around a bit thought the 5D might be a good long term bet. I'm not one for changing for the sake of it and want to upgrade NOW to avoid needing to within the next couple of years.

I will mainly used it for portrait work but want it to double-up for general use (kids, sports, airshows etc) so thought that's where the S5 might struggle ?

Have many of you out there swayed back and forth between Nikon/Canon ??

Any thoughts people ??
 
Yep, but I've held them all and they all feel great mate that's why I've got trouble choosing.

I have got the options down to "a couple or three" just want VFM in my next purchase.

5D classic is a very affordable way into FF. But remember that to get the best from that sensor you'll need good (expensive) glass. It's also getting a bit long in the tooth.
If your budget will stand it I'd stick with Nikon and use your existing lenses. Are they DX specific ? If so hold out for the D300. If not and you can afford it go for D700 and avoid another upgrade for quite some time.
As with most of us your budget will be the limiting factor.
 
The S5 will certainly struggle if you want it to double up for sports. It's a great camera but much much slower than any of the equivalents in the shops today.

I'd go for a D90 or D300 in your shoes, but then I've barely looked at the Canon range since first getting into photography.
