Borrowing An L Lens

A friend is letting me borrow a 70-200 f4 (non is) for a few weeks am I likely to never want to give it them back

If it's a useful range for you then no. What have you got/tried in that range?

I have a Canon 70-300 is and a 30 year old Canon 70-210,it is the sharpness of this lens that I am expecting to blow me away in comparison to what I already have

You will see a huge difference over the 70-300. I have had the 70-200 non IS for just over a year now. I'd like to try the IS version but couldnt really justify the extra expense. Hope you enjoy the trial - you wont go back

Just mind and keep the shutter speed at an appriate level above 1/200th (preferably a little faster). I sold mine becuase I felt f4 was too slow. Up in Scotland we do get less light right enough!

Actually Jim, It's a lovely Sunny day here in Blantyre just now! And my f4 is working well!
But yeah, when it's not a nice day, best to take a Tripod with you or boost the iso a little. Your probably best to start saving for one now. or look at a second hand f2.8 version, comes in around £6/700

lol yes I'm in Blantyre too haha. I used to take the 70-20 f4L to football matches and as the light went down later in the game it was tough to keep the SS above even 1/200th without upping the ISO a lot. The extra stop makes a massive difference..

I used to own the 70-300 and found it very slow to focus compared to the 70-200 f4 IS I now have - that was the first impression - the next was that the pictures on the 70-200 just look so much better in so many ways.
As has been said, get saving !

You will love it. We hear that all the time from people who haven't used pro-spec lenses before - they're often blown away by the sharpness, colour rendition, speed of focus, etc.
