Two explosions have gone off in Boston at the end of a marathon. There's some very graphic images circulating on twitter. Doesn't seem to be much more known at this time.
 
Just watching on Sky - dreadful end to a marathon!

Saying there were two explosions a couple of minutes seconds apart.

It's incredible how news travels now. Virtually within seconds Twitter was flooded with tweets and images.

My thoughts go out to those involved.

They're saying 3 dead now, I wonder if it's an amateur group that are responsible, it looked like 2 quite small explosions, when the IRA hit Manchester they took out 1/2 the city centre with one bomb

Who knows. I don't think speculation about who/how/why is helpful at this stage.
 
Some of the images starting to circulate twitter are very powerful. Some are just too graphic :(

Most moving one so far is a man being wheeled away with his leg shredded to ribbon, had to let out a gasp.

If anyone wants to look at some of these images #prayforboston on twitter, but seriously NSFW or for the squeamish.

I imagine the newspapers will be filled with images tomorrow, from a photographic point of view a lot of togs with pro equipment were at the finish, I imagine more than one infamously 'iconic' image will be borne out of this.

Another disgusting act of what I presume is terrorism. Rumours now circulating the net that more devices have been found.

Absolutely awful. Really feel for that poor man on twitter, those legs aren't repairable.

When i searched for Boston Marathon a box with images appeared. You don't search specifically for images.

Exactly.

You follow the story and are exposed to the images. But the post above was indicating how to go and specifically see the horrific images if you wanted to. That's surely not what anyone would want to do?

It's not a search i'll be making again :( Although I searched whenever it was breaking on BBC, not relating to the previous post.

Seriously Joe, lets not let a thread of a sensitive nature like this deteriorate into bickering.

My post was relating to possible iconic images rising from this incident. Lots of pictures on the hashtag, more being posted every minute, most aren't graphic. I was giving a warning to anyone wanting to look at them that some are quite distressing.

Lots of the powerful images on there so far aren't too gruesome. I'm just saying a couple of the powerful ones are.

Thoughts go out to all those involved in this horrific destruction of human life.

My fear is we will be seeing a lot more of this in the years to come.

Curiosity Joe. Years ago I had to transport an Ambulance crew on a tractor and trailer up through the woods of which belonged to the farm where I worked, a private light aeroplane had crashed there. They had to amputate the pilots leg to get him out. One of the crew said to me you don't have to look, but you know what?

Thoughts to all affected by this one.

My thoughts exactly.

It just makes me feel ill the thought of all that tragedy that there could be people "rubber necking" to see their ounce of blood and flesh you know what I mean? Sickening

Its so tragic when you see events like these, I can't help thinking one day my children could be stood in the wrong place at the wrong time :(
 
Very scary one of my cousins is just a week into a 12 week course at Harvard that is just a few miles from the explosion I know his wife and kids were worried about him having not being able to contact him right away

I just heard that the 8 year old girl who was killed was running for the kids who died in the sandy hooks massacre. Its like some sort of sick twisted irony

Seriously just what the hell is wrong with the human race?

edit: Turns out it was an 8 year old boy that died, the girl doing the running is still alive, but still

by the look of the video I have seen the explosions were fairly small in area - unless your cousin was either at the library or the finish line it looks like he should be ok. Has he been in contact now?

I really hope one day something terrible happens to him or his family. The man is a disgrace. Literally minutes within people dying, he makes up some bullcrap about the government setting it all up. What planet does this man live on?

Seen the videos and pictures, horrific stuff. One Image of a girl quite obviously horrifically injured and most likely dead grasping her iPhone stuck in my mind.. She probably has footage on there of her very last moment alive.

No doubt this will drag up the moral stance of photographers argument again, but until then, thoughts are with the dead, their families and also of all the people that rushed in immediately after the explosions to help. I'm sure the death toll would be much higher if it weren't for the immediate response from the stewards, police,army and the public.
 
My heart goes to those that were injured and to their loved ones.

I was in Manchester the day it's heart was ripped out and changed for ever. I hope they find the person or persons who did this and mete out some real justice.
 
Awful...just awful.
Some people do not deserve the oxygen they consume.
 
I just think its a miracle only 3 were killed - a bomb in a packed place could easily have killed more.
