I think I prefer the landscape version. What do you guys think?

Yes #2 for me as #1 has too much blown out sky and not enough of that brilliant water...or is it varnisdh...SOOO smooooth.
#2 has good strong comp as well but that light beach area seems to dominate a tiny touch too much.

Although I'm not so bothered about the lighter beachy bit

That water does look amazing!

Definately No2 is tops for me.

The foreground seems to be giving a look of wide angle lens distortion to me and detracts from the scene.

Think I'd prefer the landscape version framed more like this -

Robert I can see what you are getting at but I think your crop only exaggerates the blown sky. I tried to fix the sky but then lost all the detail of the trees. I re-shoot would be required, doubt I'll be back in Tasmania for a long while yet though!

Was thinking more of the overall shot than exposure problems

edit. plus of course it is only us photographers that notice 'blown' skies

No.2 for me, looks like a lovely spot where you could get a bagful of keepers from various spots
