Hi

Well, whilst on holiday I found a canon 70 200 f4 is L lens going for a slight discount, about £80 less than I had seen it online.

Anyway, after much internal debate (this is a lot of money for me to spend on a lens), I decided to buy it.....

All I can say is wow, bloody hell........ It's amazing.
It's just so sharp, and the pix just seem to look more vibrant than with what I was using before.

I know, new toy syndrome, but I did some side by side shots to check with my 18 135 lens that I had handy and there is a noticeable difference.

Anyway, i'm pleased to say the price was worth it :)

Hi, how much consideration did you pay to the f/2.8 before buying the f/4? Was it a down to the price, or the weight/manouverability of the lens, being that the f/4 is that much lighter?

I shot almost all my rally pics with the 70-200mm f/4 L lens and i love it to bits great lens for the price and amazing quality from it this lens gets mean  from me

agree, i just got ahold of one about a week ago! - what a step up!

Enjoy, I have a 70-200 F4 IS and it is indeed very good. To Alexthecheese I considered a 2.8 non IS before I bought mine but the F4 IS is said to be sharper, and I needed weathersealing which the non IS aren't.

Thanks Mark. :)

I was looking at the 2.8 with IS, but then was confused as to whether or not the non mk2 2.8 actually comes with IS...? The MK2 is way more expensive. :shake:

The 70-200 f4L and the 17-40 f4L are the two best value lenses. They are both great unless you want faster aperatures.

Congrats! 70-200 F4L is one of the best, let alone best value, lens I've used. Whenever I think about going back to Canon, that lens is at the top of the Pro list.

The 70-200 f/4 L is one of the best value lens out there and is often a first step on to the L ladder.

The problem you will have now is nothing will compare to L, so all new lenses will have to carry the red ring.

Have fun using it and post some pics up here.

Its been great so far, only thing I've noticed is the motor is slightly noisy when focusing (or it's the is)

I'm shocked by how sharp it is lol.

Trying to make up my mind between the 70-200s thinking I'll get the 2.8non is. Congrats on your first l lens, I'm afraid it's a slippery road from here. Before you know it you will have 5 L lenses :)
