Just receive the Nikon Beast (28-70 f2.8 AF-S) today. Bought it off a forum member for a good price.

What a lens this is, a little bit heavy but lighter than i expected but the optic is super fantastic compare to my Tokina that i'm selling now, i guess i get what i paid for.

Gonna try this lens out on the weekend if no rain, hope it will blow me away with optic quality.

Very impressive so far but only cons i can rate is the attached of the lens hood when reverse it for storage, it take abit of time to mess around to attached it ......
 
yeah, shame that i use my Tokina in the college studio on Monday otherwise is great to see the photos, but i got to admit the Tokina is stunning in the studio as well specially when i shoot in f4 and f5.6.
 
its a quality lens, sharp wide open, love mine a wont part from it,
this was from raw no sharpning at all.

I'm well glad that i've made a step forward for the lens. Not as heavy as i would imagine but it maybe i got use to doing video with big cameras so DSLR + this nikon beast is not heavy for me.
 
hahaha, i like the limited edition, you can go show the canon boys that we have different color lens too lol.
 
Congratulations. It's a fabulous bit of kit. Probably the best lens I've ever owned. Like Scott, I can't see me parting with mine.
 
Doesn't half look similar to the DX 17-55 AFS in that photo above. I much prefer the size and grip of my 17-55 on my DX cameras than my 24-70 on my D3.
 
Mine wasn't so great unfortunately. It wasn't that sharp and the af motor died after two weeks!

I too had this lens. It was superb. I used to always say "you could kill a burglar with this", due to the weight. :D
My focus motor died on me too. It cost about £350 to get repaired at Nikon. It's not unusual for this to happen with this lens according to the guy at Nikon I spoke to. But once I got it back, it was amazing!
I moved over to the 24-70 when it came out. To this day I'm not sure that I did the right thing.
Would I do it again? Probably not. I loved that 28-70mm.
Enjoy your new lens and dodn't be tempted to ever part with it. ;)

i don't think i got any money left to part now anyway lol. Unless the lens is stolen and the insurance will most likely give me the 24-70 .......

Pretty satisfied so far, all this AF motor faulty thing really got me thinking for some reason .....

I guess for a lens this good and quality i think i would pay £350 to get the AF fix rather than spending extra £1200 on the new 24-70

i find it i have to use a grip on my D7000 otherwise it feels i weight more. Grip D7000 balance this beast quite well.
