Bracketing for HDR with a D200

Hi all

Just starting to play with HDR and have the Photomatix software and im using a D200 so question is, is there any need to bracket for 9 shots or will 3 or 5 be enough. or should i be using the +/- 3 or 5 options..

any other tips welcomed

Don't do too many myself but try it with 3 then 5 and see if there is a difference.

I usually do 5, but Im finding recently 3 is often enough.

However 9 may be usefull in really demading light scenes where there is a big contrast between the brightest and darkest parts. You could always shoot 9 and then use as many as you like for the final image, or try it with 9, then with 5 and then with 3 and see which gives you the best end results.

I usually do 3 for landscapes (even got decent results with 2 actually as the usual problem is the overexposed sky).

for demanding scenes I found I never had to go above 7...It's a trial and error (and personal taste!) thing

depends on the scene, if you can get the right exposures for it with three then take three


but if youre shooting into the sun for example and its really bright you might need to up in to 9 shots so you can get detail in the sun at the darkest shot.

remember as well, if you shoot bracketed with 7 shots, you can always just use 3 of the shots, you cant use 7 shots if youve only shot three
