Now, I know there are a few of you in the area (chewyuk, stan the man, et al., I'm looking at you!) so hopefully I'll get something good out of this.

The girlfriend is eager to do some hill walking, I'm eager to do some photography, we're going to come to an agreement whereby I stay at home playing with cameras and she sees how far away she can walk. Errr, I mean, we're going to go out together and I'll irritate her by stopping every hour to take some photos.

It's about a 3-4 hour drive down to the Becons, but that's worth it if we get a couple of days walking in.

I went on this hike:

Last month with a few guys from here. She's not too keen on it, and I'm not too bothered about repeating it.

I'm considering the "Upper" walk that was done in this thread:

As I missed it last time.

Sarah fancies getting to the top of Pen Y Fan as well.

We're both fairly physically fit, reasonably well equipped and experienced, so we should be able to tackle most routes. Really it's going to be a walk that I take my camera along on, rather than a photographic trip, so I'll probably go lightish on the camera equipment.

All advice welcome!

Well of course there is the Brecon Mountains Steam Railway! Lovely area for walking etc!

There are a few decent walks on this site

Hope you get good weather

Pen-y-fan is a great walk, theres some interesting shots around the top of Corn-du (the next peak, just a few mins walk away) theres shots looking back at pen-y-fan with boulders in the foreground.
Theres several routes up, the easiest is probably from the pont-a-daf car park, then it's up the path, theres also the slightly harder Storey arms car park route, that route has a false crest so you go back down the otherside and up again.
Be advised the weather can be severe in the Beacons, you can have all four seasons in a day, go prepared for the worst. Wayne
