Yep and if enough people keep doing free weddings there will be a good few wedding togs joining them.
I doubt she getting the food, flower, cars, rings, dress for free, so why should she get free photos.

I'm still lost as to where it says free in her request. She might not have even realised that that forum was offering free services to togs. I certainly didn't when I registered, will I now get the same treatment from all of you.

Credit crunch doesn't necessarily mean free, it may mean she is on a tight budget and yes, as has been said, she may have been planning this for a while and had some things booked and been made redundant. It happens. Things like venues and caterers have to be booked sometimes a year in advance but other things can be left til 6 months before

We've had a couple of things booked for this year and Mr Kelack has been made redundant, fortunately our things can be cancelled without losing hard earned money

Don't be so hasty to judge, my Mum always told me never to assume as it makes an ass out of u and me
 
Anybody who uses the term "credit crunch" deserves to be shot. People are starting to use it as a get out of jail free card for bad money management and borrowing money that they can't pay back :bang:

The market is there for cheap (Not actually free, as I do not believe this person has asked for it for free but that may be another debate) because said person cannot afford to hire a pro. As a pro, it is up to you to market your product and nobody else.

Does a BMW dealer whinge about Skodas. Do they bleat on about how they are going out of business because people buy a cheap car? No, they carry on marketing their product at their target buyers. If someone can't afford a pro photographer for their wedding, taking away the cheap option will not make them afford it and the pro still won't get the job.

Thanks - me and husband have used it and we have no bad money management or borrowing that we can't pay back, he's been made redundant as there is no money or work in the construction industry. Don't tar everyone with the same brush:(

I'll wager the vast majority of people who are winging about the "credit crunch" are the ones who remortgaged their houses, started collecting credit cards and spending money like it was going out of fashion during the not-too-long-ago boom. I don't feel sorry for any of them to be honest, you have to be in charge of your own fortune and your own future in this world and that includes protecting yourself against any difficulties that may arise. Credit crunch this, credit crunch that, whinge whinge whinge.... really boils my **** :bang:
So, I'm afraid I will be quick to judge, that's my perogative. :)

Couldn't have put it better myself :)

Although there can be some merit in taking a few guesses, there is a saying "assumption is the mother of all **** ups!". She may be one of the nicest people you could meet and is willing to work with you for both your benefit. She just may not be the best at putting her thoughts across on paper/computer and the email address could just be her sense of humour :) Then again she may not be but you can't be sure until you've spoken to and met her.
 
We can only comment on what we see. It's not like we can all email the bride and ask her what she really meant is it. If we're afraid to comment because our assumptions may be wrong then this thread wouldn't have had any replies and wouldn't it be boring in here if that was the case.

I'm in the construction industry too, self employed, so when it's quiet I get no money. There is indeed a definate lack of work at the moment, but I've always put a bit of money away to see me through times like this. If the trend continues in the construction industry I'll have to look at a different line of work. I am solely responsible for my own upkeep on this earth, I don't deserve any handouts or freebies, so in order to make sure that I can exist without going into poverty I have to put money away when it's available and live off it when it's not. If there are no jobs or no work out there, it's not for me to complain... whoever said that people should be guaranteed a job or a salary. When you are born, it's up to you to make your own way through life, this includes making money, doing whatever it takes to survive etc. So THAT's why it ****es me off when people start whinging about the "Credit Crunch"....

Personally if she can get something for nothing, or very little, then good for her. If she's happy fine, if unhappy no one else to blame.

It is her day after all.

Do clients who want cheapies worry me, no there are plent more clients in the sea.

Of all the things above (food, cars etc) I would think that the photographs are the one thing that needs doing as well as possible, as they can never be replaced. New rings can be bought when more money is available. You'll remember bad food, and that you turned up in a shabby Datsun Sunny, but it's not that important. Having physical memories of the day is important - therefore if she can get someone who is semi-pro or at least has half a chance of knowing what they are doing, then why not?

Everybody wants as much as possible for as little as possible in these times!!:D

The 2nd quote is from the original poster. From that I think it's fair for me to assume that the bride was asking for free photography. It may not be right but I'm not about to go emailing the bride to find out.

Why shouldn't I generalise? If people didn't generalise then it would be virtually impossible to voice an opinion on any matter.
You're quite right, this shouldn't be taken off topic as it's an interesting thread and my comment about the use of "Credit Crunch" in the subject's email is veering away from the main topic.

What a load of crap! Whether you call it credit crunch, recession or whatever, it means there isn't as much money about so people have been put out of work. Those people now have less money therefore they have less to spend. Yes, people can put money aside but there are limits, especially in the current economic climate. Your "I'm alright Jack" attitude may make you feel smug but it also says a lot about you and your lack of compassion towards others. To keep this on topic, the bride in the OP is looking for a cheap photographer for her wedding because she doesn't want to spend money that she doesn't have, is that not something you are advocating?

Oh, and for the record, I was made redundant last year because of the credit crunch (Or whatever you want to call it). I didn't remortgage and I have no credit cards so please do not think you have the right to judge other people based on the very little or no knowledge you have of them.
 
Outcome of thread = some people are selfish (and I don't just mean ROFL2K9 here).

you don't have to be wealthy to afford a low cost wedding plenty of people have done it. This country is suffering because people borrowed money they could not afford to payback. How much of that was spent on weddings? I work with a lot of young girls that are or have just got married and they all talk about loans and how expensive it is and how broke they are as a result.

Regarding the woman quoted in the original post i have no idea about her and we may have judged her to harshly. As someone said maybe she is trying to get the best she can for the money she has. But i do not think people should get into dept over the wedding. Its a crazy start to there new life together. If however you want to be married there is nothing stopping you from getting a licence and some witnesses to a registry office and getting married for the minimum amount. The dress, the photos, the favours, the flowers, the party are not needed for a marriage.

On the contrary, I think it's a very good idea for the lady in the OP to try to get something as cheaply as possible, if not free, if she is struggling for money. It's something I tend to do when I'm buying something :thinking:
My dismay lies in her use of "Credit Crunch" in her email, which obviosuly she is more than entitled to do.
In my opinion (and this is where people get confused and start claiming that I "don't have the right" etc. I DO have the right because freedom of speech and freedom of thought are still very much a reality) a lot people are currently all too eager to jump on the "Credit Crunch" bandwagon.
I personally know a lot of people who have complained about the "Credit Crunch" being the reason for their monetary problems but after speaking to them at length it's more than apparent that it's their own financial negligence that's got them into bother.
I'll be the first to admit that I don't have a lot of time for whingers and whiners when the very things they are whinging about is a result of their own actions. Of course there are genuine cases of hardship that are a result of other peoples' actions and I do have compassion for them, but as I mentioned in my earlier post, I'm making a generalisation based on the facts and information via other sources that I have encountered.
If you find my opinions to be "crap" then that's just fine. You too have the right to your opinion. It's a shame because most of the people I talk to have the same thought's about the subject as I do but when it comes to putting across their opinions they don't bother due to the "You can't say that" briggade hauling them over the coals.

If a bride doesn't have the money to buy the quality and expertise of a fully established professional then why not advertise for a keen and willing amateur or professional wannabe. The day will be beneficial to both of them. I am shooting a wedding for a friend later this year, I've never done it before but I have assured the bride I will do my absolute best for her and she's happy with that as would a lot of brides will very little money.

I completely agree with you. The issue I have is that IF the bride is expecting this to be done for free (which we can't tell), then the way she asked for it could have been better. The initial request sounds very demanding and if she expects those standards at a minimum then she should be prepared to pay something for the photographers time.

If, however, she's willing to take a risk and is prepared to end up with no good photos (or any photos at all) then by all means ask for it for nothing and she's in no position to complain should the worst happen on the day. Chances are she will get a fair amount of good photos for nothing.

No one has said you don't have the right to say anything. You go on about freedom of speech and then say that people should be castigated for using a phrase that you disapprove of. How can you possibly base a generalisation on facts? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever, generalisations are based on assumptions, not facts.

It's got nothing to do with "you can't say that", but you have to expect people to ask you to justify say it.

A generalisation HAS to be based on facts (notice the the term "based on")... a generalisation cannot be based purely on assumption as this would remain just an assumption.

To quote from a reputable online Dictionary:
"A generalisation is a reasoning from detailed facts to general principles"
and
"To generalise is to draw from specific cases for more general cases"

This is turning into a handbag swinging session, which is no good to anyone so, in the words of the Theo thopadopolopolis "I'm out"....
