Covered the Brit Car race yesterday evening/am this morning. 23 hour endurance race. Try to convey the feel of the pit lane in that there is waiting around then, bam, once the car is called in there are driver and tyre changes in less than 10 seconds. Amazing stuff. Enjoy! Images are not in time order.

As always a superb collection of photos from you, im very envious of you proper photog that get decent access to this kind of event.

Really like the "wheel scraper", "pushing the car backwards into the pits" and "over the shoulder down the straight" shots....

Absolutely amazing photos, seriously.

I was in awe constantly as i scrolled down, absolutely superb set of photos.

The only criticism i have is there's a few ones which are just handshake and don't belong in the collection, they're the black sheep!

I've gota get me that lens too one day, just look at the bokeh!

Thanks. Sometimes I feel elitist, awkward and very very lucky but I am thankfull that I get paid to go and do this, something I love. For me the passes simply give me access to better shots is all. I dont look at the people at events and think 'ha, lucky me' In fact yesterday I gave away all of my press pack/stuff to a guy who had snuck onto the pit-lane, his face was a picture.(y)

I am pretty humble about it all. In the last few weeks met loads of 'celebs' and they are simply just people. Other times, when I am watching a car go around a track yet again, I would love to be shooting images of homeless and drug addicts. Still, as long as I am out with the camera then I am happy.

The shake is intentional really, to convey the movement, speed etc.:)

Comment noted however :D

An amazing set, can imagine alot of those shots in magazines and books covering this seasons races, good to see the focus wasnt just on the track but the event as a whole (y)

:notworthy: fantastic stuff Diego, fantastic.

Some great shots there, and nice to see most are different from the type that most of us get to shoot at these type of event (me included).
Must same that this is my favorite of the whole bunch though - outstanding IMO

You rule! I really like the fact you've documented more about this race than just the cars going round, you've captured everything else that is involved with racing too. A big pat on the back too for helping out the tresspasser and making his day, I bet there aren't many other pros doing things like that.

What lens you you use when you're walking around the pits doing peole shots? Have you got something flexible which covers the whole event or do you have something discreet for walking around pit lane?

Kev, thanks, in fact thanks all. I use the 24 - 70mm + 5D combo for short and then the 30D with the 100 - 400L for long. A variation of stuff here. I also carry a 50mm prime and the 85mm prime and a speedlite which worked superbly with the 1/10 handheld stuff.

As for the ambience, well, I always try and recreate a genre when I shoot and not mimic. Amazes me when I get sent on a job as to how many snappers simply wait around for the shot when in my eye and brain I see so many things. Snap snap snap all the time......I must have clocked some serious milage on that pit lane!

Oh and from a red blooded mans point of view I really wanted to get some more shots of the girl in heels with the line on her stockings.......forget motor racing when you see that....mmmmmm :) ha ha ha!!!!

Thanks again.

Some fab shots in there Diego. People are what you do best, and it really shows here!

Impressive .....

do I detect a couple of lensbaby shots there or is it the editing? Amazing stuff, love the night time ones ;)

Not quite, just used the zoom as you shoot technique which gets a similar effect as the old lens baby. Well spotted however and thanks again to all for the kind words! (y)

\o/ Me too, kinda. 24-70 on 10D, 100-400 on 30D :D Just your shots are slightly better than mine :p Only just of course ;) :notworthy:

Great set of shots, certainly something to aspire to. Back in the 90's I ventured into the pit lane at Brands Hatch when the BTCC tested. I was happy with my shots but they pale in comparison.
Well done. I'd like to be your apprentice too.

OMG. I'm a motorsport fan and also an amateur photographer. Looking at those pics is almost like looking at porn. Sooooo good. :notworthy:

Once again, thanks all for the comments. I am pleased you like the images, it means a lot to me and I value your input as you are all very good. (y)

Here are a few more I worked through. Shot 1600 images so plenty of PP yet.

Staggering shots! :notworthy:

These are great!
I went to my first motor racing event at the weekend and took some (as I thought) great shots in the pits, but now................well, at least I now have something to aspire to!

I love the reportage feel; the telling of a story. From all the comments, you seem to be a very popular photographer. I'm off to search the galleries for more of your work!
Cheers.
