Yes
must say PlusNet have been diligent doing tests and keeping me updated

they sent out a new router and filters too

they say the occasional line speeds of 1MB I was getting are not stable
the line has stabalised at about 700kbps [ though 900 this evening]

my question is....should the Upload speeds be faster...

data from recent tests..................................................
.
Today 16:33 910 kbps (114kB/s) 42 kbps (5.25kB/s)

what are the figures in brackets..??

Do you know what your line attenuation figures are?
I'm on 16db upstream and 29db downstream.
About 15db of attenuation downstream per 1000m of copper is about average.

WOW I've had faster dialup modems than that.

The Upload speed is always the slower. They seem to rate it as the speed you can download to your pc. The download speed is the speed you can get data down to refresh page data. I've never understood it myself.

Your speed is dreadfull, don't suppose you have cable in your area.

4miles from the farm to the BT exchange on a overhead BT line which serves several farms along the road

I'm told
"you are lucky to get 700kbps...............:shake:

CABLE...? dont even have street lights...

I investigated 'mobile broadband'
"3" said maybe, maybe NOT

O2 just laughed....gits

i take it youre out in the sticks?

if so this has always been a bit of a problem.. its not necessarily the distance from the exchange that causes the problem but also the age and quality of the cable between the exchange and your wall telephone socket. unfortunately there seems to be very little interest from telephony companys in rural areas..

true.....:D
true.....

I'll just have to stay out of posts with images................

anyone used "ONSPEED" ....supposed to compress data [and jpegs too]

£25pa

Try finding a cheep Corega router on the bay. We used to use them in work, used one in a tiny village in Anglesey and it sure improved his speed.

Sadly I can't ehem borrow any now as we no longer have a stores :(

I'm 4.5 miles from the BT exchange - along rural roads - and getting 3Mg + download speeds - with BT Broadband. Before going ahead - BT estimate was 500kb.

I'm having the exact battle at the moment with my ISP, they seem unable to solve the fluctuating speed below .5mb one minute and then 3mb the next minute.

Sending 20mb of images to clients is such fun. :banghead:

I've had all the excuses

Too far from the exchange...... Funny I've been on the same reliable broadband for years.

Dodgy microfilter... Hmmm, it's a dedicated socket and has been for years and never had a filter on, tried one anyway and no difference.

Must be the router, then why is it the same with a different one?

Firstly, you may well have been but especially with recent weather etc line conditions may have changed?

Secondly, It may be a dedicated socket for your router but do you have any other telephones or fax machines or anything connected to the line elsewhere in your house? If so they also need a micro filter on each device and if you already have, one of those may have failed?

Lastly, have you removed the faceplate from your master socket?
Behind that is the test socket an engineer would use if one was sent, plug router direct to that and see if it helps (disconnecting any other telephonic devices you may have), if it helps an internal fault is likely (wiring or filter), if not the line condition to or problem at the exchange?
HTH

??
The upload is usually 512k or 1 mbit if you pay the premium YMMV of course lol, download usually the best of 'up to' 8 meg or 16 or whatever they try to (mis)sell you ;)

Wish ISP's would stop trying to get people to 'upgrade' beyond their current 'up to' when they are not already able to achieve even the limit they already pay for :(

Def upload is not rated not the speed you can download though, that is the download speed, whether it be to refresh a page or download a ile it is data being downloaded, no idea why/how you came to think otherwise but HTH.

well seems to be settling in at 920 kbps ATM....will investigate new router in 2011

thought it was just a box of electronics and didn't know they varied as to performance.....

The upload speeds are as expected I think, when download is slow for ADSL it will reduce the upload so that more of the frequency spectrum can be allocated to download.

WOW I've had faster dialup modems than that.

If you've ever had a dialup modem giving above 56Kbps I think many people would be interested ;). Even that was only achievable on cable lines, on BT lines 53-54Kbps was as good as could be managed with V92.
