Yes
about 6 months ago I was getting about 900kbs download

yes yes but it is 3miles from the local exchange up a bit of wet string to the farm
dont argue with what you cannot fix.....:shake:

anyway several months ago it dropped to 500kbs
PlusNet said the connection wasn't dropping, and 500 was all BT would guarantee anyway.........

last month down to 300kbs - to the point i couldn't WAIT for threads with images to load
like ''show us your film shots''....:shake:

now SUDDENLY it's back up to 995 kbs...

any reason why it should..?

Not sure, it does fluctuate depending on line quality, noise etc. Config at the exchange.

If you want faster, look at Be (they use ADSL2+ which is faster on the same cable).

I went from 2Mb with PlusNet to 7Mb with Be (and 1Mb down)

who is Be ..link.?

Strathaven is a small village - prob doesn't have ADSL2+ anyway

Its normally noise on your line that causes drops like this, I have had this in the past where a micro filter was on its way out and replacing that fixed the problem.
Its so frustrating those when you live a long way from the exchange...I feel your pain.

thanks all ...time for some research.....:exit:

Disconnecting the ringer on your main telephone socket can reduce noise and increase speed?

seems like plusnet do a lot of traffic shaping
i should read the thread properly mind.. shaping shouldn't cause it to drop for months.
as dale said it may have been an issue on the line/exchange that caused the SNR to increase and the sync speed to drop that they may have now fixed.

thanks all...still at 950+kbs....

BeThere says 1-4mb ..BUT can only suggest 1MB to the farm postcode - think I'll stay with PlusNet ATM

I have noticed a few BT Vans along the line/route later ..so maybe that has helped
