Am on the look out for best broadband deal.What do you folks on here have....ie ... speed ,cost ?.At the moment we use Orange ,i think there's better out there ,maybe i'm wrong :shrug:
 
I am using Aquiss.

I pay £24 and pence a month, no yearly subscription, just pay via paypal each month.

That gives me 30gb bandwidth PEAK usage (8am - midnight) and then unlimited off peak (midnight - 8am and all day sat/sun), 8gb speeds.

Never had an issue with them and had a couple of friends sign up using my referral link :D
 
I use Bethere. Up to 24 Mb line (remember the drop of is exponential the further away you are from your local switch), which is £21.50 a month under a fair usage policy (I've never been pulled up and I can down load an awful lot of fan-subbed anime over a period).

Normally they are reliable, but their customer support is not that hot.

I know O2 is also Bethere, and while they only offer 'up to 20 Mb' instead of 24, it is in reality the same provision. I know their tech support used to be different and better, not sure if it's the same or if they have merged their services since I last read that.
 
I use Virgin and the internet side of things is thoroughly reliable. I get 4.5Mb/sec which is slightly more than my line is supposed to be able to provide.

Virgin email (contracted out) has about 2 to 3 hiccups per year, but you can use an independent like Google Mail etc.

Think you may be better with local opinions since service varies throughout the country.
 
I was with Orange (£17.99 pm).

The told them I was swapping to O2 and they offered me a crazy deal to stay.

Declibned though and changed my phone and broadband to O2 and pay £7.24pm for up to 8gb. In reality I get around 4gb.

Depends, though, if you can get their fast service.

Try telling Orange you're leaving and see what they offer.
 
I use Sky simply because it costs me £10 per month for 16 meg speed and I believe they are the only company in the UK (according to watchdog) with no fair usage policy so my connection won't be throttled if I use to much bandwidth etc.
 
Im with O2 Home Broadband and on the premium (£9.79 per month if you use o2 pay as you go or contract) and i am currently getting 19mb download and 1.8mb upload.

Its super fast and has never missed a beat since i had it. You ge a free Draft N router too!

O2 and Be Unlimited is the same. I can download at 19mb at anytime of the day and its never throttled. In fact i downloaded the lightroom 2 demo yesterday at 5:45pm and it shot down at 1.9mb/sec

But what is the 'best' broadband deal? Where you live, the 'best' may well be considered poor in other parts of the country.

The Which best buy for broadband & line rental combined is up to 24 meg for £19.99 That includes line rental. But, in many parts of the country that will still be 'up to' 8 meg. And then it will depend on where you are in relation to the local exchange. But that goes for all suppliers. Check the broadcall (bb and line) at www.utilities-direct.com
 
Do you have fibre near you? If so, the only choice is virgin media, because you'll actually get the speeds advertised and the peak time restrictions are easy to adhear to, you can just do the heavy downloading after 9pm.

Im with Sky too, same package for £10 and I'm getting a regular/constant 5.4 megabit connection whenever I use/check it, normally between 19:00 and 22:00 monday to friday and weekends.

certainly never experienced any speed or connection issues, but I've only had it a month so far.

edit: oh and you get the wireless router with 3 filters, cables etc too.
 
We used Be Unlimited in our student house last year and can recommend them, the only thing is the router they supplied is rubbish (drop outs and randomly resets itself) so you could do with buying your own decent ADSL one.

We were quite a distance from the exchange, but got a solid 6mb pretty much any time of the day. And there were 5 of us in the house and no issues with throttling or limits. I found service to be pretty good too, and for our package it was £17.50 per month and 3 month notice if you want to cancel (which is good because student house term is Sep-June, and 12 month contracts of many companies means money wasted).
 
I'm with Be as well, £18 a month or something I pay for a 24mb line, actual speed is around 17mb on a good day :)
