Yes
Just tripped up my stairs while carrying my 50D with 24-70 & 430 EX attached :bang:

Result, broken 430EX. The plastic foot-plate that slides into the hot shoe has snapped so it doesn't clip in any more.

Does anybody have any web addresses / phone numbers I can call for bits/repairs/sedatives

Brian :'(

Well if you tripped will all that gear on your luck thats all that happened!
Matt

Most home insurance will cover this under contents so if its a pricey repair it might be worth claiming!

There is a mod somewhere to adapt to the newer metal mount but I can't find it.

I'm sure it was youtube or something like that.

I've tracked down a replacement part on fleabay for £8 + postage. It's a poor design but I suppose if the flash didn't snap it'd pull the hot-shoe of the camera :(

The flash never even hit the carpet, the camera hit the ground from about 2ft coming to rest on the grip / lens & the flash snapped under its own momentum.

I'm just glad I tripped going up, not coming down the stairs :D

Yes, would agree with that

I think I'd also be pleased - probably after I've calmed down from throwing a proper paddy about breaking the flash - that the camera and lens are okay

A lesson to us all me thinks

*snip* after I've calmed down from throwing a proper paddy

I didn't even swear, my first instinct was "To The INTERNET !!!!" , I don't know if that's a sign that I'm growing up at last or I'm a total net-geek

Matt Charlton did this too and successfully replaced it. Have a quick search for his thread. It was a couple of years ago now though.

Whoa! Now thats some TP memory for you right there!
Excellent work Marcel! :)

b****r! thats no laughing matter!
Oh what the hell you'd do it to me :D

News latest -Mr Grubby Gubby has a quick flash on the stairs

Glad thats all that was Broken and sounds as though you have the repair "covered"

Actually just realised, Matt buggered a 580, not a 430. However, I'm sure the principle is the same. (Not sure how similar the hotshoe is though)

Thanks for that Marcel. Very useful to know :)

Does anybody know if a replacement (metal) foot for the 580EX Mk2 can be made to fit a Mk1? Unlikely I know, but it would be a handy way to upgrade a Mk1 into a Mk2 as the metal foot and the locking arrangement is the main improvement IMO.

careful what you touch inside gubby, and areful how you open it. i remember seeing something about them being a pain to take apart and reassemble( cant remember which flash)

I spent over 25 years in Electronics, I can fix stuff you can't even see :geek:

and I've got a chainsaw if it goes badly wrong

I guess it is prudent to point out that flash guns have dangerous voltage inside. Very dangerous! So don't go sticking screwdrivers into capacitors.

It used to be a working practices guidline that people in repair centres were not allowed to work on flash guns while alone. In case they got a belt and a heart attack! This is true
