Broken equipment? Tamron 24-70mm

Hi

I am new here and I would love to hear some advice on what might have happened here. I was doing a wedding last weekend and everything was going fine. I was using Tamron 24-70 with Nikon d610. Somewhere after the dinner I noticed some cracks/scars on the front of my lens. It wasn't there before I am sure of it. I got this lens as brand new and only used it for couple of months so far. I didn't drop it or knocked it. I always keep it in a bag (padded - Lowepro) attached to the camera. I do keep it lens down - camera on top in my bag. Now I have attached the photo taken with my phone and hope you will see what happened there. It doesn't seem to affect the photos - I checked on the PC, but I am worried that it will only get worse and eventually the lens will brake.

Is it possible that it has just appeared out of nowhere? I know it's hard to believe but I just couldn't think of anything I have done to make it happen.

Would appreciate any comment, tip - anything.

It's scratched, do you keep a cap on it when you put it in the bag?

Anyway, it's an insurance job to fix. It won't be visible on images, but... At some point it'll cause flare or other optical issues when you're pushing the limitations of the lens

(by which I mean pointing it at the sun, like we do. Modern photographers don't appreciate that we never had the option of those shots in the old days, modern lens designs and coatings are awesome)
 
are the scratches/ marks on the inside or outside of the glass 9 can you feel them ).

the dotted scratches look more like something you get when a serrated edge has been pushed against something or like something has been scratched along it and created the dotted effect ( seen similar on car window when someone tried to break in and used a knife which "bounced along the glass )
the marks seem to indicate 3 possible 4 seperate scratches in the dotted pattern and a smoother one further around ( at around 1 o clock )

just wonder if at ay time during the wedding you could have somehow bumped into someone ( they are almost like pin scratches ) or caught the lens on something . would have thought the front glass would take a fair bit to scratch it like though so its hard to know but certainly doesnt look like pressure cracks or otherwise.
 
Looks a little like (but not exactly like) when i once got champagne splashed across one of my lenses one new years eve (only a drop or two) but it dried something similar to that. A lens pen got rid of it, annoyingly it had dried by the time i'd noticed so took more time to get rid of it.

Yes, dried-on water marks look like that, almost mirror-like, and can be quite hard to remove. A bit of heavy breathing and a microfiber cloth applied with some pressure usually does the trick and leaves no permanent damage. Lens hoods are good protection.
 
This is exactly what I did HappyUK, I think I was simply not rough enough the first time ;P
