Broken lens

So I just went over to the local park where there was going to be a memorial march to the church, taking with me my trusty 70-200. When I get there I start to test fire some shots and find that unless the lens is set to 70 it would not focus, confused I look to see if its switched to AF and notice that the back of the lens (just behind the collar) is coming apart.



Anyone recommend a repair service or know how much this is going to cost?

Is it a Canon or Sigma or .... 70-200 lens.

I think Canon and Sigma offer a fixed price repair on certain things - it's worth a phone call to see.

Norfolk Camera Centre (not sure of it's anywhere near you) did a superb repair on a lens for me a few years ago and at a very good price http://norfolkcameracentre.co.uk

The peeling finish tells me thats a siggy, so give them a look for a fixed price repair as Andy said, or if you have it covered on your home insurance put in an accidental damage claim?

Thanks for the replies guys! Yeah its a Siggy, I will give them a call, I have since seen their service costs, am sure that repair costs will be significantly more! I don't have contents but it is covered under business insurance, but with premiums high enough already not sure if I want to use it on this.

Sigma's "service costs" *are* their repair costs. Lenses don't need servicing like cars do.

I'd be surprised if something like this is covered by insurance. Accidental damage - eg if you'd dropped it - might be covered, but if it's just worked loose or worn out over time then that's usually not insurable.

Now dealing with Sigma, images sent for quote, not sure if its going to be over tariff price and onto hourly rate as there is something rattling around inside. Oh well, easy come, easy go!
