Hi all i have dropped my camera (canon 1100) and snapped the lens of the main body the ring the clicks the lens in to the camera has broken can it be repaired if so how much or am i better just buying a new one ow the lens is the 18-55mm kit lens thank you
 
Sorry, not entirely clear from your explanation exactly which part has broken?

If its just on the lens replacement would be the only economically viable course of action

If the body is still working ok,i think it would be cheaper just to buy a new lens,the cost i think would outweigh a replacement on this type of lens :)
 
sorry its the ring on the lens thats broken the one that you put in to the body and turn the lens to lock it in place hope thats a bit clearer :)
 
Might be worth considering buying the slightly dearer IS version if you decide to replace it
 
Pop an ad in the wanteds, I'm sure there are a few people with kit lenses going spare, better to buy off here than risk a dodgy cheap one from an auction site.

Kev, MPB have quite a few 18-55 IS lenses in starting at £59 http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/us...-fit-lenses/canon-ef-s-18-55mm-f-3.5-5.6-is-2 and would be a good replacement for your kit lens. As others have said though, you now have a good excuse to get an upgrade to a faster f2.8 lens or a longer focal length like an 18-135 or something similar, obviouly depending on your budget though. I really doubt you'd get your lens fixed for anything less than the cost of a replacement.
 
As has been said above, you can get a replacement 18-55 lens for probably considerably less than a repair would be - I wouldn't consider it. I'd be looking for a new one - the decision is whether you replace like for like or upgrade...

With regards to your broken one, could be worth selling it as it is - make sure you photo and list very accurately - you could get some money back. There was a wanted thread on here a while ago, after busted lenses for a project...
 
If the lens mount is damaged, I'd examine the body mount very carefully and fully test it with at least two undamaged lenses to be certain.

If you haven't tested it with another lens, you can't be certain the body ok.
