Has anyone had the pleasure of replacing the scratch screen on their D300 LCD or is the display all one part?

I have just cracked mine ( took protector of to clean screen ).

When I had a D200 damaged Nikon sent me a replacement scratch screen but when I contacted them today they want me to send the camera to them, which I don't want to do as it is not that badly cracked nor do I have the inclination to part with any unnecessary cash so close to Christmas. On the D200 screen I just had to peel the outer cover off and stick on a new one, I can order one from china but wanna make sure I don't need to replace the LCD as part of it. Hope this all makes sense...:cuckoo:

I managed to replace a badly scratched screen on a Canon (5D I think) a while back. It wasn't hard. In the Canon, at least, the screen is just a cover for the LCD, not a part of it. Hopefully the same for Nikons.

I got the spare parts from Lehmann's if I recall correctly and a tech there told me what to do. There are no doubt YouTube videos out there too.

Yep.just sen a you tube clip.....seems to be separate..... thanks

I did it on my 20D it was pretty easy talk the back casing off and pop the old screen through from behind. I ordered it from a Canon parts dealer and it was less than £20 delivered IIRC.
