whilsta way at the weekend i was attempting to "slow" water using my ND filters . i have an ND2 , 4 and 8 . I tried a variety of combinations but all of the pictures turned out with a brown tint to them . I would have appeared to achieved the slowing affect but at a cost of the colour. I have tried playing with them in lightroom but cant seem to get the brown tint erradicated completely.
Do i need to play with the white balance ? or are my filters too cheap and nasty ( flea bay jobbies ) any advice welcome

If they are full ND filters rather than grads a quick WB will sort out your problems either in PP if you shoot RAW or in camera if not.

Take a picture of a white or grey card with the filter in place, the go to custom White balance an select the image you just took, jobs a good un.

It does explain all these sort of things in your manual you know?

You do realise this is the talk basics forum dont you?

Why be such an arse when everyone asks a question, just dont bother replying if you think its so much trouble. :bang:

To the OP, if its Cokin filters you are using, they often do give a brown cast. You should be able to correct it using the WB slider in Lightoom, but it may not completely cure it depending how bad the cast is.

In Lightroom, its the very top sliders on the develop module. There are 2, temp and tint.

Few ND filters are truly neutral, and some are quite poor - as you've discovered.

A custom white balance is easy enough. You can take a reference shot and leave that image on the card so you can go back to it and reset at any time. That will get you pretty close, possibly perfect.

You can also sort it out in Lightroom, especially if you have something white or neutral in the shot to pick up on with the dropper.
