Has anybody ever been, planning to go this year? im going in Dec by coach and ferry,

just wondering what lens(s) you would take, im tempted to just take 50mm and see what i can achieve but then agen i dont want to miss anything so should i just take the 18-105 kit lens?

also whats your thoughts on the chritmas market, any good?

I went a few years ago but I was too drunk on mulled wine to do any photography. I'd say the 50mm lens would be ideal though. There was an ice rink in the square too which would have made interesting pictures.

Something I have wanted to do for the last couple of years now. Even went as far as to looking into a TP coach trip for a weekend.

Maybe next year .... Enjoy yourself ..

You want something relatively wide and fast - I'd bring my 17-50 2.8 and the 50mm 1.4

If you only have the kit then that'll do fine too, just don't be afraid to bump iso a bit to get decent exposure times.

The Christmas market itself is quite small, but Brugges itself makes up for it. There is usually an Ice and Snow show somehwere near the station (huge ice and snow sculptures) which we found interesting on top of everything else.

Hmmm, We are looking at going to Bruges, Still trying to find the most economical route and can only really spare time for a day trip tho :( any suggestions?

Eurotunnel to Calais. Brugges is only about 70-80 miles drive up the coast. If you get an early train, you can easily do it as a day trip.

We went a few years ago between Christmas and the New Year and the market was still going. A truly magical scene from the 2nd floor of a restaurant overlooking the main square during a light flurry of snow will live with me forever.

We would love to go again this year as Brugges is one of our favourite places at any time of year. Unfortunately, Mrs Bloo has started her treatment and all trips are off until about May next year.

I would say this is nifty-fifty territory.

Are you going for the market or the photographic possibilities?
Take everything in case of the latter.

Otherwise the one lens you really need will be the one you leave at home.

Eurostar to Brussels Midi, change trains for Brugge, job done, Eurostar tickets to Brussels include ticket to any other Belgian station so whatever price you can get the Eurostar for is all you have to pay. Might be cheaper ways but none so smooth. Brugge is worth more than half a day though, how about out late one day, overnight in Brugge, then late train back next day. Now you're making me wonder if I can fit in a trip before Christmas, the beer and chocolates are absolutely mind blowing.

If only I could afford an overnight stay. Looking at hotels and they arent that cheap. Plus we can get a ferry crossing for £40 return and that will be for 4 of us. I would like to stay overnight so that I could drink but its unlikely :(

Town centre hotels and B&Bs are ferociously expensive - more so at Xmas as it's fantastically popular (even before the Colin Farrell Movie put it on the map - also starring Brendan Gleeson and the uber-yummy Thekla Rueten).
If you're prepared to schlep a bit there are cheaper hotels outside the peripherique, but you'll need to bus-into the city centre...
