Do they just die after a time? Mines about two years old, have the odd problem of connection dropping but easily sorted with the on/off thing, but tonight it died completely, works after a restart for about a minute then dies, tried re setting too, worked for about 10 mins until I tried to get my getting lappy connected, then died again. My iMac is connected via ethernet cable and that won't work either at all now.
Any advice apreciated :)

And if it is dead any advice on how much to spend on another one, they quite varied.

if its ethernet and wireless then it more than likely an adsl connection issue. presumably the light that states connection to the internet has been made is off?

new router wont solve an issue on the line..

get the filter(s) swapped out (its probably the first thing bt will want you to do) and turn the router off for 20 mins (this is the second thing theyll ask, the exchange resets the connection after 15 mins if no attempted connection is made). then call bt support.

Thanks all, It was connecting to the internet but only when it felt like it!
Emails arrived during the night fine, but wouldn't let me connect this morning.
Forgot that I'd actually got a newer business hub, put that in and new filter, all seems fine now, and a shade faster too :)

Yes would be the right answer, latest Home Hub 3 is very good unless you use the internet phone

It does sound like a faulty router, or filter.

If you have the time to wait (up to an hour on hold) then call BT anyway to report the router as faulty, as they'll send you a new one which you can keep as a spare. (Or pass it on, but BT lock their routers to BT lines only.)

If you tell them you've managed to borrow a router which works well they'll eventually believe the router is faulty.

They'll try to tell you it is out of warranty and therefore not their issue. The reply to that is to suggest you are also out of contract with them and you will move to a new supplier - who will send you a new router for free. BT will then agree to the "goodwill gesture" of replacing the router.
