budget 1.4 converter for my 1000d

I`m looking to get a 1.4 converter but really don`t want to have to sell my first born and have a kidney removed to do it , is there a cheap alternative? I expect there`ll be a compromise in quality but i don`t intend on blowing up my shots anyway.

what lenses are you going to use it on! some wont physically mount let alone be any good!

The lens I currantly have on it is a tamron 70-300 and it works fine , I'm just looking to extend it's range

Jessops make some cheap ones, but the quality really will be abysmal on the tamron 70-300

unfortunatly the extenders (sigma/canon) wont work with non L or EX lenses as far as im aware as the rear element protrudes from the back of the lens so wont fit on the extender, it would also add one stop onto the lens which at the long end would probs push you over F6.3 (and into manual focus...)

You can pick up a used Kenko DG 1.4 TC for around £70, I use one with my 300mm F4, if you use one with your 70-300mm, as Chris said you will have no AF as it's over f5.6.

I have the Kenko DGX Pro 300 1.4x teleconverter, which I purchased from DigitalRev. Cost was about £120.00 or something similar. Quality is excellent, although there is slightly more fringing than with the Original Canon 1.4x TC.

Would deffo recommend the Kenko, although not with your Tamron! TCs should really only be used with fast high quality zooms and prime lenses.
