Hi all and a very happy new yr to everyone.
My question is what is a good budget lens with a fixed front element (as in the focusing ring is not the end of the lens like a kit lens) im on abit of a budget so the cheaper the better. Its for a canon eos 500d i would prefer a zoom lens over a prime.

Thanks.

Maybe take a look at the tamron 17-50 2.8. its going to be my next lens. costs around £220 new from one-stop digital.

What exactly is it you are looking for?
More length or just better quality glass?

Looking at what you currently have an 18-55 and 70-300 I am guessing just a nicer lens for the low end / walkabout?

If so i would personally consider either the Sigma 17-70 or the Tamron 17-50

I have used both extensively and they are both fantastic in their own way

Sigma:
For: 20mm more length, HSM, cheaper, OS version is more expensive but better than the Tamron VC option (if you want stabilization at this length)
Against: variable aperture (2.8-4.5 or 2.8-4 on the OS), you need to make sure you get a sharp one but in my experience a sharp one matches the tamron

Tamron:
For: fixed f2.8, normally ultra sharp but make sure you get a good copy, don;t get the VC!
Against: Pricier, noisier, the zoom ring goes the wrong way :-D
