Budget second lens

I've finally moved up to dslr from my trusty fuji S9600,
and I am now the proud owner of a 500D.

I'm well happy with it, but I am thinking about extending my zoom range
as I had gotten used to the 300mm range of the fuji.

My budget, however, is not too great, probably only a couple of hundred quid maximum.

Do you have suggestions of what would be my best bet?
I have heard good things about the EF-S 55-250.

EF-S 55-250mm is a cracker - if you can live without the extra 50mm, go for it. If you can't, the Sigma 70-300 APO get a good right up too, though it hasn't got IS!

Thanks for the welcome. I can most likely live without the extra 50mm as the 250 would give me a 400mm equivalent, which is more than I was used to previously.

I'm glad the 55-250 gets such a warm response. Nothing worse than aiming for a duffer.

55-250 is a great lens for the price! It'll keep you satisfied until you decide to upgrade to an L zoom probably.

I am indeed watching many places online, I was merely responding to candlestick's suggestion of posting on the wanted section.
