budget telephoto

hey all, its that time of a photographers life when they make a big investment and thats what im enquiring for.

i have been using the sony 55-200mm f4-5.6 and its a nice lens however i would like to upgrade to something better, preferably in the max of 300mm as i could do with a long lens, im not to bothered about aperture either. my budget is £400, please help me.

Your budget is in a real no mans land for Sony. All the budget 70-300's are below £200 and the new price for the one heidfirst mentioned is around £600.

If Springtide is selling one for £450, that might be your best option

i agree with leaky and heidfirst....if you can strech to £450(or knock springtide down a little )then you'll not better the 70-300 G SSM in that price range

I think we all know that unfortunately £400 is now where near a 'big' investment in camera terms. I wish it were and I'd have a Nikon 400mm 2.8 for about £1,000 (fantasy numer 6!). Don't ask what 1 - 5 are

I have this lens and I really like it, upto300 if that's any good - and within buget. Personally I'm really comfortable with it
