Budget Tripod

Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice.

After spending more than I should of on a new body and lens after my 40D gave up, my tripod has now seized up too! Probably all the sand and salt water - good job is was only a cheap thing.

After my recent purchases I'm after a decent but cheap-ish stopgap tripod until the funds for something better come along.

Has anyone had any experience with Hahnel Tripods? I've seen this one on Amazon. Anyone had any experience of them or have an opinion on what they might be like?

I bought a hama tripod just over a month ago, reviews were ok but a bit mixed, ordered it anyway as same as you though a stopgap would be fine, it arrived, put my camera on it and the inner central column sheared off and my camera nearly took a meter dive onto the ground, luckily I was still lighty holding my camera and saved it, from that lesson I went and got a redsnapper straight away So personally I would not recommend any budget tripod.

I'd go for a Red Snapper (if the postage to Ireland wasn't so expensive...)

Thanks for the replies guys. Heard a few things about them but just checkout out the Red Snapper site and they look the business.

Not really fussed about a ball head as I'm a landscape/seascape kinda guy so their cheapest tripod/head combo looks appealing.

Just don't go carrying the tripod with the camera attached, as a guy on here did that and his camera fell off with that head.

Cheers Ade, I have been checking the classifieds regularly but most I've seen are, for now, out of budget. I've already stretched the mrs patience with the new 7D & 70-300

1 + for red snapper, they are solid and reasonably priced. And you still get 10% off being a member here, I can't remember the code but if you call they will tell you happily.

Definitely going to look into the brand further. They certainly look the part. Currently trawling youtube etc for reviews.

Would you really trust a cheap tripod with your new camera? I know I wouldn't!

Why not try something like a bean bag set up whilst you save for something more suitable? Just a thought.

I have had a redsnapper for a couple of years now, given it stick at times and have never had any problems with it.

Depends on what you class as a budget tripod, but I got one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fancier-Multi-Function-Converts-versatility-shooting/dp/B003SZ42LC and it's as solid as a rock with a gripped 5D3 and Sigma 150-500 OS on it. You can take off one of the legs and use it as a monopod with the small secondary head that comes with it. It might not be well known, but it's a cracking tripod and I've never had a problem with mine.
