Built in flash customization?

Hey, I got a Olympus E-420 at the weekend and I am new to photography. Basically, I don't have a seperate flash gun at the moment and don't really want to spend £100+ picking up a decent one before I can even use the camera. The camera does however have a built in flash. Would it be possible for me to use a diffuser on the built in flash to get better effects?

Also would it be possible to use a small mirror to redirect the flash and bounce it off other surfaces to get a better picture than the straight on mug shot? I realise some of you will probably laugh very hard at this topic as it's probably completely ridiculous but never the less..

i've seen flash defusers for built in flashes, god knows where, try the WEX website and the like.

will it improve the picture's though, say portrait type photo's?

A member on here, "Flash In The Pan", sells all sorts of flash-related gubbins, including pup-up flash diffusers! They work by spreading the light out over a larger area basically, which reduces hot spots, harsh shadows, and generally gives the light a better quality. Can't remember how much they are, but we're taking a few pounds rather than £100!

Cool, how much do you charge for these then? Would it be worth fitting a diffuser to the built in flash?

Is there any decent alternative to the fl-50? I've seen the metz but all the info I can find is quite dated, usuall 2008. Also, anyone know of a fl-50 used for sale?
