Yes
Anybody out there using a bullet/helmet cam that can be powered by an external battery pack to prolong recording time?

Much as I would like a go pro I'm not really after anything that big.

Thanks folks.

My normal one I use on my bike is a Contour Roam 2. It doesn't take run off external power, but it will do about 3 hours on a full charge in low quality mode.

However I just bought a cheap "go-pro rip off" off ebay though for £26 for another purpose. That DOES run off external power. I won't be shooting any high quality documentaries with it, but seems ok so far, for the price. It's so cheap it doesn't even have a brand but search for "waterproof action cam" and you will find a plethora of listings.

Thanks folks.

small bullet camera recording to an external recording device?
No, internal recording I just want it to run from an ext battery pack if poss.

There used to be a number of small dv recorders that would run the small bullet cameras. You could power the lot off say the 12v from a car or bike, or a 12v battery pack. I used to run a similar setup on the bike, small thin bullet camera inside the helmet to the dv recorder in my backpack. Batteries lasted about 6 hours and longer when I went lipo for the weight saving.
You can get some bike cameras with 12v pickup - i.e.

DogCamSport do an external battery pack for their Bullet R+, HD2 and Roadhawk Ride cameras that adds 4 hours of battery life. They might be the sort of size you want.
