Burning DVD's in XP

Just installed a DVD reader/writer as a replacement for the CD-RW in my XP machine and soon learned that XP has no software for writing to DVD's.

Anyone suggest basic DVD burning freeware for XP, pl?

it'll write files to DVD but it wont author a video DVD, is that what you mean?

Nero however have a free downloadable program you can use, its not the full version but should be enough for what you need

http://cdburnerxp.se/ is another free one, but it depends what you want to write.

Thanks folks.

New DVD-RW can read DVD's, read and write to cd's, but will not write files to DVD's (throws up an error message saying XP cannot do that).

Plenty options from you all - cheers.

interesting.. something is ringing a bell about a registry setting needs changing..

does it show as a "CD-RW" rather than DVD in my computer?

Another vote for Ashampoo, much better than the Nero stuff.

XP can definitely write to DVDs though.

there is an update from MS that allows DVDs to be burned using the same way it knows to burn CDs - the IMAPI CD burning service where you drag files to the CD in explorer and hit write files to CD. I thought they included this update in SP3.

yeah might of been that..

i think im thinking of the registry key that needs changing if your CD/DVD-RW shows as a non-writable drive?

I think PowerDVD sorted that out on earlier versions of XP, always had to load that before the drive worked.

No, when I installed the DVD - RW Drive D in My Comp changed from CD to DVD-RAM.
Puting a blank DVD in the tray causes DVD-RAM to revert to CD. Take out the blank DVD and CD (drive D) goes back to DVD-RAM.

However, now got Ashampoo installed.
