Burning pics onto CDS

I'm just doing a much needed backup of all my pics[so far only just finished my old Kodak camera :eek: ]
Which means I have a good couple of thousand of pics yet to copy.

I was wondering if it allows more files to be put onto each cd/is safe to put Zip files onto the cd?

As of the moment I'm purely copying each file onto cds, I can get around 8files per cd, obv depending how much each file contains, and luckily I'm a neat freak so everything is in a dated file[date of the upload].

Shall I continue as I'm doing, or is putting Zip files OK/the way to go?


I WILL also be getting an external hardrive when funds allow!
 
8 files per CD :thinking: You must be doing something wrong as that works out at over 85MB per file and there is no way your images files are that large.

The Canon RAW files from my 30D and the largest files size is only about 10MB so that would be 70 or so files per CD.

Why not write the to DVD anyway as your looking a 4 or 8 gigabytes per disc

Reason I use CDs is that last year I was doin a college course and bought 100cds, I then quit the course and have all these cds left over!

Will see if there's any DVDs lying around, cheers!:)
 
for the cost of dvd's i wouldn't bother with cd's at all... Also, just make sure any zip files you create are substantially smaller than the original file. Not that i think you're doing this, but if you try and compress (zip) an already compressed image format such as jpg then you will not gain any space and could lose space.
