Butter, real butter?

Where has butter gone, my wife buys low salt this and that, butter that only thinks it's butter, easy spread butter, white butter etc, etc, etc. l want yellow butter, old fashioned butter that is full of all things that are bad for you but tastes fantastic, what do you guys think? Where is the real stuff?

YOU would find plenty of choice if you accompany your good lady on her shopping trips!

I think the quality of English butter has gone down, the same as most English cheese. I am only basing this on my own taste buds, when I go to France and buy Normandy or Brittany butter, which is more yellow and is easier to spread and the taste is richer.

It depends what you are buying - there is plenty of cheap cheese out there and it is awful, but the nicer stuff in Waitrose is excellent

I agree, English butter has got worse and I buy French butter whenever I can because of it. (y)

I lived in France for a while and coming back to poor UK quality food was a hard adjustment to make.

The high fat content in all butter means I don't eat anywhere near as much as I'd like to any more though. :sulk:

To me, French butter tastes very different from English butter, and always has. There's a sweetness and a less greasy feeling by comparison - I only use butter for frying or baking because it's always left a slightly cheesy, greasy taste behind on toast or croissants, but French butter doesn't do that.

I can only say that Sainsbury's butter tastes just fine to me.

Rarely eat butter these days (on bread or toast) but do use it in baking and to baste an occasional steak. I use Sainsbury's salted for both.

I do like the Sainsbury's salted butter too, hate marg because it is plastic. Another bonus of the Sainsbury's butter is that it is still 250g.

I best not let the missus see this. I'll have to build a larder. All because of butter....

I do tend to take the butter out a bit in advance. We haven't really got anywhere in our kitchen though that stays a bit "colder". Most of the time, I do tend to use it on toast tbh

I'm interested in where you guys keep your butter....?

In the fridge and then trying to spread it on soft bread or rolls isn't the easiest :ROFLMAO:

NEVER in the fridge, if it's decent butter it'll hold up

Butter dish, cover , you're good

I did mention Kerrygold earlier - try it one time, I promise you'll not go back
