I have posted several threads of late about a canon 300mm f2.8 IS. I have the chance of one at what I feel is a good price and I am almost def going to purchase it. However, it is a 1999 model therefore the first year it came out. Apart from condition should the year worry me? were there any problems when the were first released?

Thanks

The fact that it is now 11 years old and, presumably, still working fine would indicate that it is OK.

I'd be more worried about buying a brand new lens in it's first year of production; if any faults are going to come to light, it's likely to happen in the first year.
