My local photographic society in Preston are currently looking to buy a new projector because the one we have currently gives a very poor colour rendition and is quite dark. We’ve tried having it calibrated but the results were still no good. We’ve spoken to another local club and they’ve spent £2,000 on a new projector recently but we’re wondering whether spending that much money is really necessary. We currently have a budget of up to £3,000 for new equipment but we don’t need to spend any more than we have to on a projector. It’s obviously important that we get a good one because it’s primary use is to display the monthly competition entries and also the work of visiting speakers so we have to show the photos at the best quality we can.

Does anyone have any experience with using projectors? What kind of projector would you recommend and where is the best place to go to buy one? We’re happy to buy off the internet but ideally we’d like to see the projector in action before we buy so any recommendations of shops in the North West of England would be appreciated.

What size film are you using? I have a rollei that I never used 6*6. With a Heidosmat F3.5 zoom lens.

We have a Optoma at one of my clubs and can not fault it also can get it at a good price.
My other club has a £3000 Canon and it is much hard to use and to be honest I cant see what you get for the money and I am a Canon man

REMEMBER if you calibrate it You have to do in under the set up it is used same distance and room darkness.

We currently have an Optima one as well but it is a fairly basic one and is 5 years old so I’m sure it is old technology by now. Apparently when it was new it showed the photos off well. I don’t know off the top of my head what model it is.

Film? Sorry I should have been more specific, I was on about digital projectors.
