i`m looking at buying a 70-300vr zoom lens for my nikon d90 and have found it for a very good price inc postage from a camera shop in the netherlands. it works out cheaper than buying a gey import from hong kong and comes with a dutch nikon waranty. Just wondered if anybody had any experience of buying equipment from europe and are there any pitfalls.
 
Nikon lenses have an International warranty so from that point you will be fine. (camera bodies don't)

You may however still be liable for import duties/taxes so work out what these might be and see if it is still a bargain.
 
There is no duty to be paid on anything brought from with in the European economic union (the eu plus switzerland). Also I may be wrong but nikon will not class eu kit as grey imports in the uk.

No problems with Nikon with regards to warranty cover on lenses. It's camera body's that you need to be careful of.

There were several scam websites operating out of Holland last year, check them thoroughly ... before ordering.
 
Would be interesting to see if anyone has had experience with this site. The Canon lens I am considering is ?100 cheaper there than here in the UK.

done a google search on them and they appear in a few review sites with lots of positive reviews going back a couple of years or so. The lens i want hasa sale price at the moment so makes it quite tempting.
 
for the lens warranty to be valid does the the seller not have to be an authorised nikon dealer?
 
spoke to nikon uk today and asked about waranty, they said if bought in europe would be covered by the european waranty and any problems would be fixed by nikon uk so it wouldn`t have to be sent back to the country of purchase.

I don't suppose they said if it's bought outside Europe whether it's covered?
 
well i decided to go for it and order the lens i wanted, also ordered a remote shutter release and i can definately recommend them. All my emails were answered quite quickly, i ordered friday afternoon and my lens arrived first thing this morning!!!
With there prices and the exchange rate i paid about the same as a second hand one here.:D

I recently purchased an SB900 in France. It was a very keen price but then I had to go and buy and Instruction book in English.
So not such a hot deal.

A lens should be no problem.

Just be aware, there are a lot of dykes in Holland.
 
And a 70-300 would stop them leaking!
