Hi guys and girls,

I'm in the market for some new glass, i'm heading to Ireland in April for my sister's wedding and she wants me to take some photos in addition to the actual wedding tog. Since my budget (unfortunately) doesn't stretch to a 24-70L, i've been looking at the Tamron 17-50 f2.8, and also the Sigma 10-20 just for fun. I've only really got the money for 1 at the moment, but would i be better off waiting till the wedding to get the other, or stretch myself now? Are prices likely to go up or down between here and April?

If your are going to S.Ireland it will probably be more expensive,Most of the people around the border counties travelled into N.Ireland to do there Xmas shopping,to save money

Yeah as soon as i'd posted i remembered hearing on the radio how many people were heading to the north for some bargains. I've edited my question to be more appropriate to the current economic climate in england (doom and gloom).

Can i suggest the Sigma 24-70 F2.8 EX DG .Excellent lens for not too much layout

You can indeed suggest it! I'll take a look at some reviews now. I looked at the Sigma 24-50 reviews but it seemed like the Tamron came out on top. The extra reach of the 24-70 would be appreciated though.

I have the Siggy 24-70 and it's a beast of a lens and I love it. ;)

I'd say a 24-70 wouldn't really be wide enough as a walk-around lens on a crop-sensor camera such as your 450D. Of course, if you also have a 10-20 or similar then you have the entire focal length range covered, but only at the expense of having to switch lenses all the time. Not very cnvenient at a wedding. That's why walk-around lenses designed for crop sensors are usually 17-xx or 18-xx rather than 24-xx. The ultimate in this department would be the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM, but it's not cheap.

The other thing I'd say is that I wouldn't bother buying a lens for just an occasional use, when there are alternative options available. But then I am biased! ;)
