If you make a private sale of a camera with warranty stil on it.. how do you use that warranty.? to be clear.. private sale being person to person..
Its a grey area. That I may have to spend some time and use some googlefu. Its the Item itself that has the warranty. Not the owner. If I buy a lens for you as a birthday present the warranty is still intact.
I buy a lens it comes with a 12 month warranty
If I own a shop and buy from the manufacturer and sell it to you in my shop. Your actually the 2nd owner, So would that mean the warranty is void.
I'm off to spend some time in the googleverse
Edit to add more:
Guarantee and warranty appear to be different.
You are correct in saying that it is the 'item' that has the warranty, but surely when you then register the item (to start the warranty period), you are then assigning your name to that warranty. It is the registered name and address that Nikon/Canon would deal with in regards to any issues that arise with the item.
If you have the original receipt then how/who would know your the 2nd owner.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS AND NAME ?..THEY HAVE ME ON THE CPS SYSTEM WHICH I WOULD NEED TO USE ....ooops caps lock. sorry..
Registering for warranty aside. I never seen my name nor address on a shop receipt.
If you look at warranty T's & C's on the Canon UK site, there is NO mention of a warranty being non transferable.
Interesting... it used to say something like "the purchaser or the person for whom it was bought as a gift". I've not had Canon gear for a couple of years, though, so haven't been following what they're up to. It looks like they've updated their terms to agree with their practice![]()
time for an email to my CPS rep i think![]()
Nearly a week and still no answer.. got automated response the query sent.... maybe I need to own more than 18+ thousand pounds worth of canon equipment.. then maybe they would give me some attention![]()
Thats manufacture for you![]()
bit peeved.. thats supposed to be my conon pro service rep.. supposed to answer queries... maybe he will.. just a week to answer emails seems slow to me....
