Buying Used lenses (Canon)

Hi all

I know sweet FA about cameras and lenses to be honest but i do know i want a wide angle of the Canon variety; the 10-22 to be specific ;)

Anyhow just wondering if i were to get a 'used' lens what i should look out for just so i dont get a dodgy one?

Avoid Fleabay, go to a decent dealer, Mifsuds springs to mind - or - have a look in the classifieds on here. Remember the golden maxim, "if it looks too good to be true, it more than likely is".
 
the blokey is on ebay and hes gota decent 100% feedback for years. hes local to me so was probably gonna pop round and do a deal....

its not too good to be true but its the going rate, cant be bothered with bidding ;)
 
Someone responded to a wanted in the classifieds and was turned down,Canon 10-22mm for 415 quid delivered didn't sound bad to me.
 
i cant access the 'Wanted' Forum, presumably because im a newbie?

The guy wants £420 to end the auction on ebay when i collect..
 
At £420 it's probably not a bad buy. Did you inquire about its' condition and whether there was any remaining warranty on the unit?

In your shoes I would look at the sales forum or MPB Photographic who is also a member here. They have one at £469 but you do get 6m warranty.

As new members with under 100 posts we can't access the Wanted forum but can use the Sales forum

Bear in mind there are a lot more options than just the canon or Sigma flavours.

The Tamron is a damn good performer and can be picked up for £379 new with a 5yr warranty, and lets not forget the Tokina another gem that beats the sigma and gives the canon a damn good run for its money.

Have never owned this model, but the general consensus of opinion is its by far the worst of the available ultra wide lenses

I have owned the Sigma and now the Canon, both very good, but my eye prefers the picture from the Canon. Not sure exactly what, contrast I think, but isn't that how you make your choice with most things

One other point, the Canon does not come with a hood, so allow a few extra quid for that if the used one doesn't have it included
