I dont get it, is it just hyped up flickr, or is it some weird, masonic, scientology type clan thing.

My father in-law (who is a tog of 30 years, is good friends with the founder of caedes and one of the 50 'premium members) tried to explain to me what it was and what it does, but i just couldnt grasp what the actual point of it was.

I've been on the site and its all " Caedes Cadre, Aediles, Praetor, Consul, Praetor Maximus...." And "Art council"... yet looking on the top of the website, you'd think it was just a large collection of desktop wallpapers.

What ever that place is, i just dont get it, and even if someone explains it to me, i still think i wont get it.

Ohwell, rant over.:bonk:

Theres more "HKotDA stands for 'Honorary Knight of the Digital Arts' for digital artists and OWotGS stands for 'Omnipotent Wielder of the Gilded Shutter' for photographers. They are honorary titles bestowed, by the Praetor Maximus, upon outstanding members.

Someone tell me its all tongue-and-cheek pleeeease, so i can go on living a sane life.

Sounds like some people REALLY need to get out more

Delusions of grandeur or paking the tiss?

Interesting site though, with good images, it's a lot more 1x.com than Flickr.
Created by someone with a lot more classical edumacation than *** I has!:bonk:

Maybe they should have paid more attention to their English education...

caedes.net Code of Conduct said:
e. Once an image has been uploaded to the site it should not be uploaded again unless substantial changes have been made to it. These changes should be enough so that it could be reasonable assumed that the resulting changed image would receive a better critique than the previous version.

f. Voting on images should be based on each image's quality and not the image's author. Regularly up-voting a specific user's images will not be tollerated.

How can I become a Senate member?

We really only add Senate members to the caedes.net team when we see that there is a specific need (either due to the absense of a current Praetor/Consul or due to increased workload). The procedure is for the current Praetori to make nominations and then for the Praetor Maximus to make the final selection from this group. Senate members are chosen based on their level of activity on the website and their maturity in dealing with others. If you are interested in helping out as a Senate member, you should call attention to your fittness for the role by making a positive contribution to the site: leaving constructive comments on images is the best way.

Oh dear.

Comes across as ex dungeons and dragon crew meets 4chan and tries to replicate a warped version of 1x.com covering all media.

Music section dominated by geetarz

Possibly pretensions of granduer, we were discussing something similar on an art site I use, about an artist describing their work. Basically a load of claptrap probably trying to impress and make up for poor work. If my paintings don't speak for themselves then it deserves to go in the bin, not try to justify it with verbiage. What do you think?

"It's a paradox to attach a functional object, such as a rudder, to a building: the sense of frustration in thwarted direction or motivation. Familiar objects, like keys, have an emotively metaphoric quality for me; I'm fascinated by the oxidising process and the acceptance of loss in the repetition of defunctionalisation and recontextualisation. .... works with stimulus:response situations, working with locally found materials, creating installations in relation to her environment. Human motivation, the seven deadly sins, migration, love, loss and icons of sentimentality are threads that run through ... work.

It reminds me of an article I read years ago in the Guardian by the then arts correspondent Waldemar Januszczak.
It was such an utterly pretentious piece of unintelligible gobbledygook that I burst out laughing in a crowded railway carriage.

These "arty" people inhabit a different world to most of us and really belong in their own "Pseuds Corner".
