Hi all,

I'm off to Caernarfon in January for a weekend. I've never been before and may not go again and seeing as the weather is pretty much guaranteed not to be sunny and hot I think I'll leave the swimming shorts at home.

Taking this in to consideration I was wondering if anyone has any advice on any decent places to get some shots? The obvious choice is Caernarfon Castle but apart from that I'm pretty lost.

I'm hoping to make the most of what may turn out to be a very cold weekend but if I can get a result with the camera then it'll make me a lot happier.

Cheers.

Caernarfon could be a bit bleak in January but its an interesting place. One of the best places to view the castle from, is to walk across the bridge in the harbour and go to the right following the coast and look back.
Not that you will have the weather for it but there are some fine beaches on Anglesey. The best one I have found is at Rhosneigr on the west coast of the island. Plus if the jets are flying out of RAF Valley you get a free airshow. They come so low over the dunes you will be surprised.
Alan mentioned the Slate Museum which is over the road from where you get the train up to Snowdonia.
Llanberis Pass is interesting. You will probably go this way on route. You will know you are there as the only way to see the top of the mountains is out the sun roof.

Must go back there sometime.

Loads of train trips in the area. There's also Conwy Castle a bit down the road, and the cablecar in Llandudno on the Great Orm. Got the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay if you like animals.

Personally I just love all the views in Snowdonia. You'll only be a few miles from Llanberis and Snowdon

Hi,

You're coming to North Wales & struggling for ideas - shame on you

I do most of my photography in the winter months, once it's stopped raining, which hopefully it will as soon as it gets colder

Anglesey is definitely worth a look - Llanddwyn beach & Island are the No1 choice for photography, also South Stack lighthouse, Penmon lighthouse, Beaumaris (all good non-walking options, easily accessible by car)

Snowdonia - basically all of it, if you're lucky we might have a bit of snow & you can catch a few mountain shots.

Llandudno, Conwy, Llangollen

There's a few to get you thinking - I have a few "togs guides" on my website if you want to check them out, in the "North Wales Tourist Info" section
