Hi there,

I have just purchased a Pantone Huey PRO to calibrate my LG IPS226V-PN.

I ran the install, and once calibrated it put a horrible pink cast on my screen. You could really notice it on the greys and whites, especially the grey background of photoshop.

I spoke to one of the customer support people, and they said it could be because of the fact that my screen is an IPS monitor, and the advised me to purchase instead the Spyder 4 express.

Have any of you had simular problems? Do any of you use the Spyder 4 express to calibrate an IPS monitor.

I really need to solve this problem soon, as I have a wedding to edit that is due online when the couple are home from their honeymoon on 8th Feb.

I had the Huey Pro and for some reason found it worked well with XP, but less than great with Vista, never tried 7 though
 
Not familiar with either but I do own a dell ips and a spyder 3 and I had problems due to a faulty puck which got replaced and have no problems since! Is your monitor wide gamut as I think some older calibrating devices might struggle? Is there anyone that could lend you one to try?

I am not sure if my monitor is wide gamut. That is possibly why the huey pro may have struggled?!
 
I've only tried screen calibration once (with a Spyder) - the result was awful. I reverted to the Windows 7 calibration - better result:'(.
 
I use my Huey at work on my dell IPS screen and it's fine on XP and windows7. I did read some forums when I was seeking advice on setup, and some people complained of a pink hue after calibration, it was cured after the unit was replaced. It was a few years ago mind you, and I thought it only effected earlier models.

This is exactly what I am considering doing. My screen with factory sRGB settings and brightness brought right down is much closer than the huey.

I am worried I will go and splash out £100 + for the Spyder4 express and have the same result?!
 
Think your monitor is 72% gamut which im guessing is the NTSC colour space which works out to be approx 100% of the srgb space? You should definitely not be getting any hues as more than likely it's a dodgy sensor. I gather the spyder expresses are pretty good for around the £60 mark unless you need the bells and whistles of the pro/elite!
 
Just a guess but sometimes you are so used to looking at a monitor that is out, when the colour is corrected your eyes are fooled into thinking there is a colour cast. The Huey should be doing its job ok. Have you tried another monitor with it and compared?

This.

When I first calibrated my monitor (using Colormunki Photo) I found it strange for a couple of days till my eyes calibrated themselves, now it looks perfectly normal.
 
What is a worthwhile exercise is to do a series of calibrations in different types of light and at different ambient light levels. This gives you a good feel for how the calibration kit responds. Also, make sure your screen is shaded from direct light by a hood of some sort and calibrate with it on and then off the screen to check out the difference.

I keep daylight out and direct light off the screen and have lit the room so that the screen is the brightest light source and created an editing profile calibrated to this.

I use a spyder 3 pro, good bit of kit.

Just did a calibration with my newly aquired Syder2Pro and it seems to have a slight pink cast, however when I look at pics previously viewed there does seem to be a greater depth of colour - maybe it is my eyes that are fooling me :shrug:

I think that could be the case - when your eyes are so used to seeing a particular way it can take a while for your eyesight to adjust!
 
I uses Spyder 3 with both an HP LCD monitor, a Sony laptop and my iPad 2. Very satisfied with the result particularly since downloading the latest software update.
 
I also use the spyder3pro on my dell IPS and an happy with the results.
 
I used my Spyder 2 express on my two new AOC IPS i2353FH at the weekend.

No problems at all. (I'm using Vista not 7 by the way)
