Calibrating an LCD TV used as a monitor

I have just bought a desktop PC because the screen on my laptop went funny quite a while ago. Rather than buy a dedicated monitor (which I will buy eventually when I have money again) I am using the 22" LCD TV in my daughters bedroom. However, the colours seem to be very bright when I'm using the computer. If I switch to the TV then I have the option to control the colour levels but not when I'm in PC mode. As I want to be able to do my photo editing on this desktop I need to be able to get the colours right.

Does anyone know if you are able to calibrate an LCD TV in the same way you can with a regular monitor with something like a Colorvision Spyder?

what connector are you using? if its a VGA, DVI or HDMI then yes you should be able to calibrate it on the PC as it will have a monitor set up for it.

I currently have it connected through a VGA cable but I have a HDMI cable on order.

Should I be able to adjust monitor colour settings through the PC without calibration software? Is there something in the Windows Vista Control Panel that will let me make adjustments?
