Calibrating Dell U2410

I currently have a samsung 913B, it appears that the calibration is way way off, specifically the brightness.
However, I would like to 'upgrade' the computer, and probably monitor early next year.
I am thinking that the Dell U2410 has got a good reputation on here from several people (especially since the firmware upgrades to get rid of the green tinge).

The difficulty is that the monitor is wide-gamut, and thus cannot be properly calibrated it seems with a standard colorimeter, it requires a spectograph for the 'best' reading of the monitor's response.

Can someone recommend a good, affordable device for this? Is it going to be wasted if I do not upgrade (i.e. OTT for a standard monitor?)

I recently bought a couple of these IPS monitors and the colours are extremely good, with a wide gamut and 180 degree viewing angle, the connectivity is also the best on the market.

However, you have noticed the problem, you do need a proper photospectrometer type of calibrator. I had a Spyder 3 Elite and it was not able to calibrate the Dell U2410 to my satisfaction. I did some research and ended up buying a Colormunki Photo which is a proper photospectrometer. I was a little dubious at the cost and was concerned it would be no better than the Spyder for the wide gamut display.

It was fantastic and the difference has to be seen to be believed, it is certainly the answer to calibrating this monitor. The cheapest alternative is use the pre-calibrated RGB or sRGB modes. This is not as good as the Colormunki calibrated screen. The bonus is it also calibrates your printer. The downside for me is I shall now probably never use the Spyder Studio set up I have.

Hmm, that kinda confirms my concerns. Seems it will add another £300 to the cost of the monitor though...

I use mine every month and also when I change paper rolls on all my printers (9 in total, Epson,Canon and Mitsubishi)

Monitor calibration is a breeze....Vista is another subject !

I have my two 2410s side by side and calibrated them with the eye one display which isn't a spectrograph. What I did was put them in sRGB (which limits the gamut) and then calibrated the graphics card to give the correct output. They now both look identical to my eyes (they weren't out of the box) and I'm happy with the colours produced.

I calibrate my 2410 with a eye one display 2 and results are good. I calibrate in Standard Mode and manage to get the White point, Gamma and Luminance all within my targets (6500,2.2, 100).

I just bought a U2410 and it's fab

Calibrate with an Eye One and the first thing I did was send test prints off to my album suppliers to make sure the output was going to be OK.

Spot on. They sent me unadjusted and adjusted prints and I could not see any difference so I can send album prints to them quite happily with confidence.
