Calibrating Sigma 150-500?

I read from time to time on here about some people having their lenses calibrated.
I use my Sigma 150-500 on a D300 body and wonder if it would be worth having this done.
I know nothing about the procedure and don't know how to go about it. Do they need just the lens or the camera and the lens to calibrate?
I don't know if my lens needs it but obviously it would be nice to have it as good as possible. I have seen figures of £39 or so, so it wouldn't break the bank.
Can anyone give some advice please?

it not really advised to calibrate zoom lenses as f you calibrate it at 500mm it might be sharp as but any other focal lenght might be pants. but if you use it mostly at 500mm that might be fine for you all you can do is try it.

Does the D300 have a live view. What I do on my canon is to take a photo normally and then switch to live view and he 10x digital zoom and take a photo again. Two different focusing methods with only the first affected by lens calibration. So both photos should be perfectly sharp but if the second is sharper you could consider calibration.
Mine was perfect.

Ok Scott, I understand what you say, hadn't thought of that. Just that I have seen other people calibrate that particular lens.
Gareth, trying to follow how to do that. Yours is the 150-500 I assume.

My advice is get it sent off, they are slow having taken three weeks both times I've sent them in, but the difference on my 50-500 was night and day, hope that helps.
