Calibrating the 27" led imac

Has anyone successfully calibrated one of these using a spyder 3 pro?

I read this article here while searching for info on the new panel

It seems that the older screens were no good for the spider due to the monitor brightness, but apparently the new led screens can be turned right down.

I am loathed to spend even more money on gear when I have a perfectly good spyder 3 pro I can use.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I use a EyeOne, but I have also used a Spyder 3 on a friends 27" worked perfectly but you do need to reduce the brightness. A programme called Screen Shade (free ware) does help the older screens & works on the new ones but I didnt need it.

my color munki recomends taht a monitor is reset to factory settings before calibrating stars. this mybe the case with the spyder
