Looking at ways to calibrate my laptop screen.
ive been looking at the spyder 4 express, is this device any good?
if so where could i get one from

There will be loads of them on eBay as well. Or you can buy direct from Datacolor as well or one of their recomended re sellers, list on their website.

For it all to work properly you do need a fully calibrated setup, Monitor, Printer and even your scanner and camera can also be calibrated. Best to start with the printer and monitor though.

No point doing one without the other, unless you are lucky.

how would i calibrate the printer

ive not yet got a printer and wont until xmas but it would be good to know so im ready

I use dcl for my prints and the colours do now reproduce accurate ly. I have an Epson 1900 printer which was great when used regularly but if not the inks clog the jets and the inks are expensive, hence I use a commercial printer.
 
Make sure you get the correct Colormunki as IIRC they dont all do both the screen and the printer, some models only do the screen.

If you have a good quality ie modern flatbed scanner Profile prism is also well worth a look although you might have to factor in the cost of buying Vuescan as well as some scanner software is not good enough, although Epson and Canon is.

you calibrate your printer by sendind a print to some one who can make an icc profile for you try fotospeed mine looks like this ... ( 1fs_canonmp560_rockey-m.icc ) this is just for 1 paper type "photolustre in this case" but they are all free if you buy your paper from them easy to add to your print module they even have videos explaining how to do it. i managed it and i"m useless with a computer hth mike.
